We were not good enough on the day – Black Stars head coach Chris Hoghton

It was uninspiring performance from the Black Stars of Ghana after being held in a goalless draw by the Brave Warriors of Namibia.

Amid the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament slated to kickstart January 13, 2023 to be hosted by Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars pitched off a friendly game against Namibia as part of the preparation to the AFCON.

The stars failed to put up a convincing performance as expected by the loving fans. The coach admitted low pressing and movement contributed to the stars poor performance in the first half of the game. But was happy the defensive mentality of the back four.

“How far we can go depends on the performances that we can put in. One thing I know is that this is a group of players that want to do well. And if you have a group of players that desperately want to do well you never know what can happen and I certainly don’t want to be a head coach of a team that doesn’t think that we have a chance of winning it,” he said after the game against Namibia.

“That has to be the mentality going into the tournament but we know we have to play well. Things have to go our way, we have to be fortunate with injuries and we have to be very optimistic that we can do very well.” – head coach Chris Hoghton

The gaffer is optimistic the team will geal well at AFCON with the right mentality.

The four time African Champions in group B will kick start their opening game against Cape Verde on January 14, 2023 follow by Egypt and Mozambique.
