South Africa’s coach Hugo Broos not happy with player selection interference

Player selection in to the South African senior national team has been characterized with interference.

The South African head coach Broos is  unhappy the rate at which his job is being interfered affecting his outline principle to player selection, the gaffer vehemently emphasize that he select players that suit his tactics and not by names or clubs.

In a bold statement, he asserted that irrespective of a player’s club pedigree, if they fail to integrate into his strategic framework or meet his performance expectations, they won’t find themselves on the call-up list.

As the team geared up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast slated to kickstart on January 13, 2023, which Bafana Bafana is tied in group E expected to come face-to-face with Tunisia, Mali and Namibia.

Hugo Broos will need support from both the South African FA (SAFA) and the entire nation to rally round the team to do well at the tournament and not criticism.

“SAFA hired my services without 56 million people involved. They asked me to take the national team forward. They never told me that they also hired other 56 million coaches to coach Bafana Bafana,” he said.

“Now people coach to me and ask why did you not pick that player who plays for that club. As long I am here I pick whoever delivers for me. You can play for PSG, Bayern etc, if you not a fit to my system you won’t be called up,” he added.

Player selection must be on merit!
