Royal Antwerp’s Alhassan Yusuf replaces injured Wilfred Ndidi

A huge blow to the Super Eagles as Alhassan Yusuf has been called to replaced Wilfred Ndidi as the Leicester City attacker has been dealt with an injury ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Wilfred Ndidi joins his teammate Kelechi Iheanacho on Leicester’s injury list that has cast some doubt about his availability for the Super Eagles in the AFCON which is slated for Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

Leicester City gaffer, Maresca Enzo insist “Ndidi might not be fit enough to play before the kickstart of the African Nations tournament as he confirmed Ndidi suffered an injury in the wake of last Friday win at Cardiff.”

The defensive midfielder has been an integral part of the team, made 54 appearance since his debut for the Super Eagles in 2015.

Jose Peseiro and his technical team are forced to take decisive decisions to replace Wilfred Ndidi with a late call up to Royal Antwerp’s Medfielder Alhassan Yusuf.

Yusuf’s call up marks his first at the senior level. The young Medfielder has been in a superb shape for his club this season, making 25 appearances in all competitions with a goal to his credit which came against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

The Super Eagles are expected to roll off their opening game against Equatorial Guinea on the Sunday, January 14, 2024.
