Promising Ghanaian defender Lalas Abubakar earns US Citizenship

Talented Ghanaian defender, Lalas Abubakar, has been granted his United States citizenship a decade after moving to America.

In order to further his studies and profession, the 29-year-old former University of Ghana defender moved to the United States in 2014. Before being selected for the Major League Soccer draft, he played two years as a member of the University of Daytona Soccer team, the Dayton Flyers.

The Ghanaian spent time with the Charlotte Eagles and Michigan Bucks before joining the Columbus Crew.

Before joining Colorado Rapids in 2019, the former Black Satellites centre back played for Crew for two years. Since then, he has been an important member of the team.

The defender put forth a lot of effort during that time to become a citizen of the United States, so he may now play for the Yankees internationally.

Entering his ninth season in the football league, Abubakar is among the most seasoned Ghanaian players in the MLS.

He didn’t play in Colorado Rapids’ season opening against Portland Timbers, but on Sunday against Nashville, he might start.
