Ghana’s U20 side – The Black Satellites – staged an incredible performance to beat their Gambian counterparts by 3-1 at the ongoing African Games on Tuesday evening at the Accra Sports Stadium.
A goal in the first half and two in the second half gave Ghana the needed win to move to the top of the table in Group A.
Aziz Misbau broke the virginity of the game on the 13th minute, coolly tapping in the opener from a goalkeeping blunder.
A howler from the Gambia goalie fell to Aziz Misbau who wasted no time in hitting the back of the net to break the virginity of the game.
Ghana led the half as the referee blew his whistle for the break.
Just three minutes after the break, Dreams FC wonder kid Aziz Misbau increased the tally for Ghana with a featured drive from a rebound.
With 20 minutes to the end of regulation time, Gambia nearly pulled one back from a corner kick when Mansour Mbaye was poorly marked but his header missed narrowly to the relief of Ghana.
Mohaison Mahmoud delivered an incredible pass to Emmanuel Mensah on the left side of the Ghana attack who wittingly outwitted his marker on the 73rd minute and was brought down in the goal area to earn Ghana a penalty.
Aziz Misbau stepped forward to take the kick but his kick was poorly taken and was saved by the Gambia goalie.
Wunderkind Aziz Issah swiftly took on his marker from the center of the circle and intelligently connected with Afriyie with a cut back but Afriyie’s curler missed narrowly.
Substitute Ebrima Cisse reduced the tally for Gambia with 8 minutes to end proceedings to put the Young Scorpions back into the game.
Ghana was gifted with a chance to score their third goal but Frederick Kesse impatiently kicked the ball into a running Gambia defender for a corner kick to Ghana which was eventually wasted.
Thought FC striker Jerry Afriyie fired home Ghana’s third goal when Gambian defender committed an unpardonable error in additional time.
Ghana ended the game with not only a win but also a delightful performance fom the youngsters.
Ghana now have 4 points from two games, sitting on top of the group and are hoping to win their last game to qualify for the semi-finals of the competition.
