GOOD NEWS: Sports Ministry settles Black Queens bonus arrears ahead of Zambia game

Ghana’s Ministry of Youth and Sports have settled the unpaid bonuses owed the Black Queens ahead on Thursday ahead of their clash with Zambia on Friday.

The MoYS is believed to have transferred the monies to the personal accounts of all the players who ought to be paid.

The payment comes as a timely boost for the team ahead of their 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against Zambia.

Concerns were raised regarding the Ministry of Youth and Sports and GFA’s lack of support; according to sources, the team had not received a visit from any senior officials in spite of their impending qualifier.

Additionally, it was claimed that the players owed $7,500 in outstanding incentives from earlier games.

But in encouraging news, the squad was visited by GFA President Kurt Okraku, Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif, and Black Queens Management Committee Chair Dr. Gifty Oware-Mensah on Wednesday.

Following the visit, the ladies have also been paid their outstanding winning bonuses after securing qualification to the 2024 WAFCON to be hosted in Morocco.

On Friday, February 23, at 17:00 GMT, the Black Queens and Zambia will play the first leg of their Olympic qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium with the second leg taking place on February 28, in Zambia.

The team can now concentrate on getting ready for the next game and aiming to qualify for the Olympics thanks to the backing of the GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The team is relieved that the top officials visited them last night with the bonuses also settled a day after.
