Good News? Andre Onana set to quit international football

Andre Onana of Manchester United has rejoined the team following a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign with Cameroon.

Following a 1-3 loss to Senegal in the group stage, the United player was knocked off of the starting line-up and only participated in one match during the tournament.

In the first knockout round, Cameroon were eliminated from the competition by Nigeria, while Onana was warming the bench for the Indomitable Lions.

After the disappointing campaign, he is reportedly thinking of giving up international football entirely, according to The Daily Mail.

Due to airline delays, Onana was unable to participate in Cameroon’s first group match.

He had departed Manchester immediately following United’s Premier League draw with Tottenham.

The stopper was trusted to lead Senegal into the crunch game, but Rigobert Song decided after a lacklustre performance that he would be Nimes Fabrice Ondoa’s backup for the rest of the competition.

Onana had already experienced problems with his country’s team, having exited the World Cup in Qatar early due to a disagreement with Song.

After the fiasco in Qatar, the 27-year-old declared he no longer wanted to be considered for selection, but he later changed his mind in time for the AFCON.

The player hasn’t made a formal statement, but United would gain if he hung up his gloves for his nation.

After returning to Manchester, Onana is anticipated to re-join the starting line-up for Thursday night’s away match against Wolves.

Altay Bayindir played well in the FA Cup victory at Newport, but going ahead, the former Inter player is expected to retake the top slot, therefore Bayindir will be back on the bench.

United will be eager to start the second half of a campaign that has been, to put it mildly, lacklustre by winning when they return to league action.
