Ghanaian born attacker Asumah Abubakar has completed a move to Swiss based side Grasshopper Club.
The attacker has signed a deal with the club following a successful negotiations with his club FC Luzern.
He joins the club on a year and half deal after passing his medical.
The club in a statement comfirmed the arrival of the former Lugano attacker.
“Grasshopper Club Zurich is pleased to announce the signing of 26-year-old offensive player Asumah Abubakar. The Portuguese player who is of Ghanaian descent, joins the club from FC Luzern on a one-and-a-half-year contract.
Abubakar started his career in Europe at Dutch club Willem II and then moved to MVV Maastricht in the Eredivisie, before joining SC Kriens in 2019. In 2021, he then moved to Super League side FC Lugano. A year later he was on the move again, this time to FC Lucerne, where he made 62 appearances and scored 17 goals. Standing at 1.83m tall, the offensive player already has plenty of Super League experience with 90 appearances under his belt.
“We are convinced that Asumah Abubakar’s qualities will strengthen our attacking options,” said sporting director Bernt Haas. “He has already played under Bruno and is very familiar with the Super League, which means he can make an immediate impact for the team.
The former Willem II forward will wear shirt number 27 at his new club.
Both parties have, however, agreed not to disclose the transfer modalities.
