The Ghana Supporters Union (GSU) have downplayed allegations that they’ve threatened to leave Abidjan for Accra due to unfair treatment after being transported to support the Black Stars.
Per reports swirling on social media, the union had threatened to boycott Black Stars matches over delayed payments of stipends and challenges in securing accommodation.
The reports further stipulates that many supporters had been left stranded and did have places to sleep following their arrival to Abidjan, where the Black Stars are based for their 3 group games against Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique.
However, General Secretary of the group, Osman Kasim Awal has rubbished the reports, describing them as untrue.
“It is on social media that the Ghanaian supporters in Abidjan are threatening to return back home for reasons being that they are not being cared for. We want to state it categorically that the allegations are untrue,” he said in addressing the press over the reports.
“Before we embarked on this trip, we were made to know what we will be given to. A day before our first match, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the accountant and their delegation came here and ensured that everyone received his or her stipend. So the allegations that we are stranded and not cared for are untrue.
The General Secretary also downplayed reports that over 2000 fans were transported to Abidjan by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, stating they only ‘came with 20 buses.”
Osman Kasim Awal further called for support for the Black Stars in their remaining two games against Egypt on Thursday, January 18 and against Mozambique on Monday, January 22.
