“Ghana has lost a big talent” – GFA President Kurt Okraku mourns late Raphael Dwamena

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku has conveyed his profound sadness and said that Ghanaian football has lost a great player with the passing of Raphael Dwamena.

At Dwamena’s funeral, which was held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Adjirigano Astro Turf in East Legon, Okraku made these comments during an interview.

“Nobody can replace the loss of a life, and when it is that the person is so close to you, that’s when you really feel the importance of the demise of the soul,” Okraku shared.

“Ghana football has lost a big, big talent; somebody perhaps who could have scored loads of goals for our national team,” he emphasised.

Tragically, Raphael Dwamena died on November 11 after suffering a heart arrest while playing for Egnatia in the Albanian League.

Heart problems had dogged his career, causing obstacles like the denial of a move to Brighton and Hove Albion of the English Premier League.

In addition, Kurt Okraku sent his sympathies to the family of the deceased, recognising the significant influence Dwamena had on the football community.

Prosper Harrison Addo, the general secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Deputy general Secretary Alex Asante as well as former Black Stars players Ibrahim Tanko, Augustine Ahinful, Isaac Vorsah, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari, and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu were among the dignitaries that attended the funeral.
