EXCLUSIVE: Hossam Hassan set to be named Egypt national team coach

The Egyptian Football Association is close to naming former national star Hossam Hassan as the new manager for the Egyptian national team, sienutvsports.com can report.

The announcement, expected in a few hours, will make the former captain of the Pharaohs the new manager after Rui Vitoria was sacked by the EFA.

Rui Vitoria was sacked as Egypt head coach after the African football giants hopes of a record-extending eighth Africa Cup of Nations triumph were dashed last week, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced.

In a statement, the EFA board of directors “thanked Portuguese manager Rui Vitoria and his staff,” adding it was “reviewing foreign coaches’ resumes”.

Following the sacking of the Portuguese manager, former al-Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef was asked to take charge of the national side, who were knocked out of the competition last week in a dramatic penalty shoot-out against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Sienu TV understands that the EFA has reached an agreement with Hossam Hassan to be the next manager of the Pharaohs on permanent basis.

The former captain will be taking charge of his first role as national team coach after several coaching stints with AL Masry, Pyramids FC, Zamalek and several Egyptian clubs.
