Former Berekum Cheslea defender Edward Kpodo has revealed that, his much anticipated move from Auroras to Hearts of Oak did not materialized due to a feud between Hasaacas and Hearts of Oak.
Kpodo joined the youth team of Hearts of Oak (Auroras) as a youngster from Hasaacas and caught the eyes of Hearts of Oak technical handlers who were inches close to offering him a first team contract.
According to Kpodo, his mother club (Hasaacas) did not come to a consensus with Hearts of Oak because the latter wanted to register him as an Auroras player which will ensure his transfer to the first team easy but Hasaacas objected as the deal fell through.
Speaking to LinusNartey TV on YouTube, the former Black Stars ‘B’ said, he met some top players at Hearts of Oak, but was always selected to be part of some first team players who were not selected on match days.
“When I was at Auroras, they had the likes of Dan Quaye, Coleman, my uncle Lawrence Adjei and Prince Tagoe were all at Hearts of Oak. During that period, all youth teams played curtain-raiser for the senior teams. Sometimes they select some senior players who were not called for camping and some youth players which I was always included. But there was a problem with my card, because Hearts of Oak showed interest and they wanted to use my card through Auroras to sign me for the first team but Hasaacas did not agree to their request. There was misunderstanding between both parties and that was why i could not play for Hearts of Oak”.
Edward Kpodo started his professional career with Team Youth where he enjoyed an outstanding three-seasons for the Harbour City lads, two in the Premiership and another in Division One.
He crossed paths to join Berekum Cheslea where he was an integral part of the 2011 winning team and represented Ghana in the 2011/12 CAF Champions League.
Kpodo went on to play in Russia and Armenia before returning to have a second stint with Berekum Cheslea in 2020.
