Congo DR announce readiness to host 2029 AFCON

The Democratic Republic of Congo have announced their readiness to host the 2029 Africa Cup of Nations few weeks after the completion of the 2023 AFCON hosted in Ivory Coast.

This was made public by the president of the country Félix Tshisékédi on Thursday during a press briefing.

The nation’s ambitious intentions to compete for the chance to host the tournament for the first time in its history were laid forth by President Tshisékédi.

The President reaffirmed his commitment to helping the Football Association of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Fecofa) put together a strong bid to go up against other contenders.

Initiatives for infrastructure development will be started to make sure the nation satisfies the requirements to host a major athletic event of this magnitude.

DR Congo is preparing to apply for the 2031 Africa Cup of Nations in addition to the bid for the 2029 edition in case the earlier edition’s bid is rejected.

DR Congo finished 4th at the just-ended AFCON hosted and won by Ivory Coast.
