Committee for Black Stars manager wraps up search

The Ghana Football Association Executive Council has received the report and suggestions from the search committee for the head coach of the Black Stars, and they will now take further action.

Finding a qualified and capable coach for the senior men’s national team was the committee’s job after Chris Hughton was fired after a dismal Africa Cup of Nations campaign. The group was chaired by Vice President Mark Addo.

Otto Addo is reportedly the front-runner for the job because he guided Ghana to qualification for the 2022 World Cup.

Michael Essien, a former Ghana international, may take on the position of assistant coach. He is rumoured to have been contacted and expressed interest in taking on the role again.

Other applicants for the role include former Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu and George Boateng, who was Otto Addo’s assistant coach before Chris Hughton took over.

Former Asante Kotoko and Bibiani GoldStars manager Michael Osei has is also in the race.

Although it was once believed that Tom Saintfiet, a former coach of Gambia, might be interested in the job, he was later named coach of the Philippines.

After considering the search committee’s suggestions, the Executive Council will choose the next coach of the Black Stars.

The FA will solicit support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other important stakeholders after the coaching selection is made.
