Charles Taylor wants GFA to appoint Laryea Kingston and Michael Essien as Black Stars manager

Despite the numerous calls for Otto Addo to return as the black Stars manager, former Black Stars winger Charles Taylor has thrown his support behind Michael Essien as the best option for the open Black Stars coaching post.

After Chris Hughton was fired for poor performance, which included a poor 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been searching for a new coach.

Borussia Dortmund Development Coach Otto Addo has become a strong candidate.

Nevertheless, Taylor – who played for Hearts of Oak and represented Ghana in different national teams – has expressed doubts regarding Addo’s preparedness for the position.

“Nothing good will come from Otto Addo. He has coached the team before, and there is nothing positive you could pinpoint from his first stint,” he told Onua Sports.

“Does that mean we should consider all past coaches who qualified us for the World Cup?

“We must know that the right people are available to revive Ghana football. I would suggest that we consider Michael Essien for the coaching job.

“Essien together with Stephen Appiah and Laryea Kingston are bold former players who will stand their ground and instil discipline among the playing body,” he added.
