The Ghana Football Association has relieved Chris Hughton as the head coach of the Ghana National Senior Men’s Team(Black Stars) following the team’s poor performance at the ongoing TotalEnergies African Cup of Nation tournament in Ivory Coast.
He was in charge of the Black Stars who participated in the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Cote Divoire, played 3 matches, lost 1 and drew 2, accruing 2 points out of a possible 9 points, hence leading to their exit from the tournament.
The 65 years old Irishman took charge of the Ghana Black Stars team in 2023, playing 10 matches in total, winning 3, drawing 4 and losing 3.
Hughton acted as technical advisor to the Ghana national team for the period of their World Cup qualifiers in March 2022.
In February 2023, he was promoted to the position of head coach of Ghana following the resignation of Otto Addo after the failure of the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The former Newcastle manager is expected to be out of post for a while.
