Black Stars should be given to Ex-players to manage – Dan Quaye

Former Ghanaian international, Dan Quaye has argued that, the vacant Black Stars coaching role should be given to Ex-players.

Following the Stars porous performance in the just ended 2023 AFCON held in Ivory Coast which saw the 4-time winners exit in the group stages, most Ghanaians believe the job will be well executed when given to Ex-players.

According to Dan Quaye, most European countries have used the approach and it is yielding results.

Speaking to LinusNartey TV on YouTube, the versatile defender said “It’s a good idea because when you go Europe, that is how it works there. Someone who has been in a position, when he goes on retirement you can reach out when you need help. So for me, it is good to have some Ex-players and then we can also support and push with our knowledge. In Europe, Oliver Kahn once a while trains with the German Team. Now look at Bayern Leverkusen, Alonso playes with the boys for them to see. So a coach who is retired comes to play with you, won’t you be excited?. That is why we are advocating for the Ex-players to be given the chance to get close to the National Teams and not rely only on books because he has done it before and the player can learn from them”.

Dan Quaye was an integral part of the Hearts of Oak team, known as the (64 Battalion) when they conquered Africa in the year 2000 and 2005, winning both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup respectively.

He also made Ghana’s final squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany as one of the local based players.

Dan Quaye started his career with Great Olympics before moving to Hearts of Oak.

Also, he had spells in China after which he returned to Ghana to play for Eleven Wise and a second stint with Hearts of Oak.
