Asamoah Gyan has addressed allegations made by Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Member of Parliament for South Dayi that his 2010 World Cup penalty miss against Uruguay was motivated by politics.
Asamoah Gyan has discreetly addressed the topic after the congressman claimed that the former Black Stars captain deliberately missed the critical penalty because of his political ties.
Gyan’s political ties, according to Dafeamekpor, caused him to purposefully miss the penalty kick.
However, celebrated journalist Ibrahim Sannie Daara, on the other hand, has refuted these allegations and emphasised Gyan’s continuous dedication to Ghana.
Daara stated on X, “This is politics but it is so wrong. @ASAMOAH_GYAN3 [Asamoah Gyan] would have made a bigger name for himself, Ghana, and Africa.”
In a lighthearted reply to Daara’s tweet, Gyan wrote, “Maybe he wants an autograph. Don’t worry. I will sign one for him soon.”
The allegations follow Gyan’s decision to accept an appointment from the New Patriotic Party as a member of the campaign team for the flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The former Black Stars was named as the chair of the sub-committee for Youth and Sports for the party’s campaign manifesto.
Gyan has since expressed his willingness to assist in reviving sports in such a capacity by leveraging his experience.
