Alhaji Akanbi explains why Hearts of Oak appointed Ivorian manager Ouattara

Accra Hearts of Oak board member Alhaji Braimah Akanbi has explained why his outfit appointed Ivorian Manager Aboubakar Ouattara a few days after his appointment.

Regaining their place at the top of African football and competing in the CAF Champions League is the driving force for the move, according to notable club board member Alhaji Akambi.

Akambi talked on Ouattara’s appointment in an interview with Richard Ntow Gyan on Fox FM in Kumasi. Finding a coach whose goals coincided with the club’s was crucial, he said, especially as they looked to win on the continent.

“There are a lot of things a team will look at before appointing a coach. Ghanaian coaches are equally good coaches, but they’re a lot of philosophies and other things we considered,” he said.

“Looking at our idea of taking Hearts of Oak to the days where we conquered Africa, we needed a coach who had that experience.

“If you look at Ouattara, he has coached a lot of clubs in Africa and has won Champions League. When we played against WAC, he was with them. So he has the things we needed,” he added.
