African Games: Ghana U20 share spoils with Congo Brazzaville

Ghana’s U20 side – The Black Satellites – were held to a goalless stalemate by their Congolese counterpart in their opening group game in the ongoing 13th African Games ongoing in Accra.

The goalless encounter leaves Desmond Ofei’s men with mixed feelings after failing to score in a game they dominated play.

The Ghana U-20 team dominated the game and made multiple attempts to break the deadlock, including threats from players like Abdul Aziz Issah and Jerry Afriyie, but they were unable to find the breakthrough and had to settle for a draw.

Aziz Misibau’s attempt in the 80th minute, which rattled the crossbar, was one of the closest moments, frustrating the Ghanaian team.

In the last seconds of the match, a contentious ruling disallowed a goal for offside, which only made the heartbreak worse.

The verdict was final since there was no Video Assistant Referee (VAR), despite replays indicating otherwise.

The drama in the men’s football competition will intensify with Friday night’s Group A match between Gambia and Benin at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Satellites will now concentrate on their upcoming Group A clash with Gambia on Tuesday.

Ghana will be keen to win the forthcoming match in an attempt to atone for their performance at the 2019 African Games, when they were unable to go past the group stage.
