African Games: Black Princesses stage comeback win over Tanzania to secure semi-finals qualification

Ghana’s female U20 side, the Black Princesses secured a semi-finals qualification in the women’s football tournament at the ongoing African Games in Cape Coast following a thrilling comeback victory against Tanzania.

In the twenty-third minute, Hasnath Ubamba of Tanzania scored the first goal.

But Ghana would not give up, and shortly before halftime, Tracey Twum produced a magnificent header to lead the country back.

Twum’s third goal of the competition cemented her status as an important member of the Black Princesses squad.

With a fantastic assist from Ophelia Amponsah, Mukarama Abdulai scored what would end up being the game-winning goal for Ghana in the second half.

The Black Princesses held onto their lead and won the game despite a few anxious moments towards the end, including a close call in the 85th minute that goalie Afi Amenyeku stopped.

This triumph demonstrated the team’s tenacity and resolve in addition to guaranteeing Ghana’s progression in the competition.

Their second group stage encounter will take place at the same location on Friday, March 15, 2024, against Uganda.
