Legendary Ghana skipper Andre Ayew will be at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast as an exceptional player with an incredible record at the tournament.
Ayew, who currently plays for le Harve in the French Ligue 1 has 114 international caps, with the numbers expected to escalate during this AFCON.
With 108 caps for the Super Eagles, Nigerian sensation Ahmed Musa is ranked second on the list, behind the seasoned Ghanaian player.
With 106 international matches each, Mozambique’s Elias Bilémbi and Ivory Coast’s Max Gradel are next in line.
Completing the top five is Idrissa Gueye, who has made 103 appearances for the Senegalese national team abroad.
It is worth noting that Mohamed Elneny, with 93 international caps, is the most experienced player on Egypt’s roster for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024.
The Egypt national team, together with Mozambique and Cape Verde, will play their Ghanaian counterparts in Group B of the AFCON 2023.
Elneny might become the 100th international match in the competition if he plays in every game that is scheduled and if Egypt advances to the semifinals or final.
Yassine Meriah, a Tunisian striker with 97 international matches under her belt, and Vincent Aboubakar, a Cameroonian striker with 98 appearances under her belt, are poised to become the next generation of international greats with their respective national teams at the upcoming AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
