Even though Bernard Tekpetey is playing well for his club, Ludogorets Razgrad, he was left out of Ghana’s final team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Two weeks ago, the 55-man preliminary team was announced, and he was included in it.
Many have questioned the 26-year-old forward’s frequent absence from the national squad, despite his impressive performances not earning him a call up.
On Monday morning, Ghana manager Chris Hughton announced the team without the in-form Tekpetey.
The former Schalke 04 player has made 32 appearances across all competitions this season, tallying 11 goals.
Notable absentees include Abdul Fatawu Issahaku of Leicester City, Baba Rahman of POAK and Thomas Partey of Arsenal.
In just thirteen days, on Sunday, January 14, 2024, Ghana will play Cape Verde in the opening match of their group stage campaign.
The Black Stars’ second group game against Egypt will take place in four days, and on January 22, they will play record-holders Egypt. On January 22, they will play Mozambique to conclude the group.
It will have been 42 years since Ghana’s last Africa Cup of Nations victory in 1982 by January 2024.
