Former Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah sees the black Stars pulling a surprise at the upcoming AFCON in Ivory Coast later this month.
Appiah who was the head coach of the Black Stars at the 2013 and 2019 AFCON tournaments believes the team performs when expectations are low.
Citing the 2010 and 2015 AFCON tournament where Ghana made it to the finals on both occasions, Appiah is sure this could be the time for the Black Stars.
Speaking to sienutvsports.com on his expectations for the Black Stars at the tournament, Appiah said the low expectations from Ghanaians is good for the team.
“We have quality players for the tournament with majority of them playing abroad.
“I wish they win the cup but it’s not going to be easy,” he said.
He added: “When Ghanaians underrate the team, that is when the team surprises Ghanaians. And this has happened so many time.
“Looking at the quality of the players, they can go far in the tournament. The technical team must psyche the players well to get the best out of them,” he added.
Appiah was also the assistant coach for the Black stars at the 2010 and 2012 AFCON tournaments.
He is currently the head coach of the Sudan national men’s team.
