The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has been at the receiving end of Krepin diatta’s anger after Senegal were eliminated by Ivory Coast from the African Cup of Nations on Monday.
The Senegalese winger labelled CAF as “corrupt” after his side suffered a penalty that gave the host advantage to restor parity.
The reigning champions drew 1-1 in extra time in Yamoussoukro before falling to the Elephants 5-4 on penalties in their round of 16 match.
Diatta was incensed that Senegal was not given a penalty kick when Ismaila Sarr and defender Odilon Kossounou went down in a tangle of legs in the Ivory Coast area early in the second half.
Habib Diallo’s early goal had put Senegal ahead 1-0 at the time, but Gabonese referee Pierre Ghislain Atcho failed to signal the foul and failed to approach the pitchside monitor to examine the video.
“You have killed us. You are corrupt. Keep your African Cup,” Monaco player said to CAF staff after the match.
“You go to the VAR to give them a penalty, while our guy (Sarr) picks up the ball 40 metres from goal, goes on a run into the box and you don’t want to go to the VAR?
“I’m sorry but that is going too far. I am really sorry but they have killed our competition,” Diatta added.
