AFCON 2023: Lack of communication cost us against Egypt – Mohammed Salisu

Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu has blamed the Black Stars’ inability to beat Egypt on Thursday on lack of communication in the defensive zone.

To him, there should be clear and concise communication amongst them on the field to avoid granting the opponent chances to capitalise on.

The Black Stars after two games have allowed 10 shots at their goal and conceded 4 goals.

Speaking on the situation after the side’s 2-2 draw with Egypt on Thursday, Salisu revealed that he believes the problem is due to poor communication in defence.

“I think our problem is communication. For the defensive part, we need to communicate very good. We lack communication,” he said.

When asked if the team will solve the problem ahead of Monday’s final group game against Mozambique, Salisu said:

“Yes, for sure we can work on this. We just need to talk to each other as a team because we got no time and on Monday, we need to give everything to get the win.”

The Black Stars will round up their group with Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium on Monday.

Following Cape Verde’s qualification on Friday, the Black Stars are left on third place in the group with a point.

The team need a win on Monday against Mozambique to advance to the knockout round as the second placed team in the group or one of the best four third placed teams.
