But after entering as a replacement in the second half, Franck Kessie tied the score with a last-minute penalty, sending the game into extra time.
The former Barcelona midfielder scored the game-winning goal in the last 30 minutes of play, adding to the frenzy.
The third penalty kick was missed by Moussa Niakhite, which was a setback for Senegal.
