Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts of Oak have announced a new leadership for the playing body with former Bechem United defender Kofi Agbesimah as the club’s new captain.
Under new Ivorian coach Aboubakar Ouattara, the former Bechem United centre defender will now guide the Phobians in their quest to restore the club’s glory.
The first and second deputy captains will be goalkeeper Richard Attah and defender Kelvin Osei Assibey, respectively.
Gladson Awako, the club’s former captain, left to join Accra Great Olympics, a rival team, during the second transfer window necessitating the new changes in leadership of the club.
Before the 2023–24 season began, the seasoned defender moved from fellow Ghana Premier League team Bechem United to the Phobians.
Since coming, he has made a name for himself as an important part of the Phobian team. In the current season, the 26-year-old has made 18 appearances for the team.
Agbesimah led by example while he was a member of Bechem United. That being said, it is hardly shocking that he has been appointed Hearts of Oak’s new captain.
In the ongoing campaign, the Phobians hope to make a significant effect with the help of Attah and Assibey.
One of the Phobians’ longest-serving players is Attah. He ended his time with Elmina Sharks a number of years ago, and then joined the club.
Osei Assibey, who joined the Phobians from Eleven Wonders, immediately made an impression on the group.
Since joining the team, he has been a rock-solid centre back, thus being chosen one of the team captains will certainly motivate the quickly developing defender.
Hearts of Oak are currently seventh on the Ghana Premier League table.
