Abukari Damba: Beating Asante Kotoko puts us under pressure to work harder

Following their solitary win over Asante Kotoko on Saturday at the Naa Sheriga Complex in Nalerigu, Karela United head coach Abukari Damba has disclosed that his side will go under pressure.

The former Ghana goalkeeper admits that it’s exciting to beat Asante Kotoko to accelerate their chances of escaping the drop but insists it comes with pressure.

A powerful header by Ibrahim Giyasu on the 62nd minute gave Damba’s side the vital win over the Porcupine Warriors in the match Day 20 of the Ghana Premier League.

Reacting to the win after the game, Damba disclosed that the win has come at the right time but it will come with pressure as expectations will be higher, and his boys will have to adjust.

“It (The win) only tells us we need to work harder. The higher you go, the more difficult it becomes,” he said.

“This victory is for today. It is gone so we need to prepare for more victories. However, it’s a motivating factor for the team,” he added.

The victory is the second Damba has recorded over the Porcupine Warriors in a month after beating them in the MTN FA Cup a fortnight ago.

Karela come up against Great Olympics in their next league game.
