Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC are still reaping the benefits of their participation in the CAF Champions League as they are set to participate in the Surf Cup Tournament to be played in Morocco this summer.
The tournament will see the U15 and U17 teams of the Ghanaian champions taking part in the inaugural event.
This opportunity has been made possible due to a collaboration between Medeama and the International Development Academy (IDA).
The tournament is aimed at providing Medeama’s academy players with access to high-level training and competition in Europe, as well as direct pathways into European academies and the US collegiate system.
With plans for the team to compete in numerous elite competitions at the youth level, the establishment of IDA & Medeama SC talent identification clinics in various locations, and international tours for both the academy and senior teams, the partnership is anticipated to aid Medeama in expanding their brand globally.
Ben Poulton, Director of Camps & Short-Term Programs at IDA, expressed his excitement about working with Medeama SC, saying, “Ghanaian football has a rich history, and to have the opportunity to work with Medeama SC to ensure the next generation of players receive further opportunities to succeed is a very exciting thing.”
Medeama SC have established themselves as a big force in Ghana football, winning the Ghana Premier League for the first-time last season.
The win shot them into the CAF Champions League where they have played Al Ahly, Young African and CR Belouizdad in Group A.
Despite not qualifying to the next round of the competition, the Ghanaian champions did not embarrass themselves, creating a platform of establishing relationship and partnerships with many stakeholders.
Moses Armah, the president of the club, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, saying, “We are very excited about the opportunity to work with IDA for the next few years.” Once again, we are incredibly appreciative to IDA for this chance and the successes it will bring.”
The collaboration is in line with the ideals of Medeama SC, which are also supported by IDA: discipline, effort, humility, cooperation, trust, and loyalty.
The success of the club is based on these principles, and the partnership is expected to foster a long and successful relationship between the two organizations.
