Ghana’s female U20 side – The Black Princesses – pipped Ethiopia on Saturday night to record their first win in the ongoing soccer competition in the African games, despite suffering a numerical disadvantage.
Ghana struggled early in the contest to establish its superiority, but as the play went on, the host country progressively equaled the Ethiopians’ intensity.
Both teams tried their hardest to break the impasse in the first half, but were unable to do so, and the score was tied at halftime.
The Black Princesses, on the other hand, improved in the second half, as Comfort Owusu scored the game’s lone goal in the 59th minute.
The accomplishment was a fitting reward for the host country’s perseverance and tenacity and came about following a time of intense pressure from Ghana.
When Ghana was reduced to 10 players in the 78th minute due to Abiba Issah’s second yellow card, the game took a dramatic turn.
The Black Princesses persisted in trying to score a second goal despite their numerical disadvantage, and Mukarama almost did it in the 84th minute but her attempt struck the woodwork, preventing Ghana from having a two-goal lead.
Ghana tops their group with three points after the win, which was met with raucous jubilation from the home crowd.
When the Black Princesses face their next opponents in the upcoming days, they will be hoping to build on their winning start.
