AFCON winning manager Emerse Fae has disclosed that he was ever ready for the Ivory Coast coaching job after the dismissal of Jean-Louis Gasset.
Fae was named the interim manager of the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire after the group phase of the 2023 AFCON.
The Ivorians lost miserably to Equatorial Guinea in their last group game of the competition, falling by 4-0.
Following the defeat, the Ivorian Football Federation named former player Emerse Fae as the interim manager of the team.
Fae eventually led the team to win the AFCON 2023 tournament, beating Nigeria 2-1 in the final.
In an exclusive interview with Channel One’s Karim Ramzy in Egypt, Fae disclosed that he was ever ready for the team the moment Gasset was dismissed.
“Following the dismissal of Gasset, the President of the Ivorian Football Federation asked me if I was ready for the coaching job and I told him I’m ever ready,” Fae said.
Fae guided the team to the final of the tournament after impressive wins over Senegal, Mali and Congo DR in the Round 16, quarter final and semi-final stages respectively.
Fae has recently been confirmed as the substantive head coach of the Ivory Coast national team after his exploits as interim manager.
