2024 President Cup: Asec Mimosas whip Kotoko 2-1 to lift trophy

Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas, have won the 2024 President’s Cup, which was held in honour of Ghana’s current president, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Ivory Coast club accepted the Ghana League Clubs Association’s invitation today and faced off against Asante Kotoko in the trophy match.

The Ghanaian team was unable to match the Ivorians’ calibre and zeal during the match played at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Just 13 minutes into the first half, Jao hit the back of Asante Kotoko’s net to give the visiting team the opener.

Before the half, Arthur increased the tally for ASEC Mimosas in the 25th minute, giving the visitors a comfortable lead.

Asante Kotoko made a strong comeback to try and win the game after the break but could only reduce the tally by one.

Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala, converted a penalty to reduce the tally for the Porcupine Warriors.

The Ivorian giants will join Accra Hearts of oak as winners of the coveted trophy.

Hearts won the 2023 edition of the President Cup.
